Best Street and Battle Dance Scenes From Movies

Updated on July 25, 2013

Dance Battles!!

I think the 80's really opened up doors to the movies and music we listen to and watch today. Break dancing, hip hop, rap and R&B are terms we all are familiar with whether we grew up in that era or not. The hip hop culture has changed the world. So much so, that it is not just a "black thing", but a culture that is shared and loved by people of every race, nationality, creed and class. It is what binds us. We embrace it lovingly as it captures all of our hearts and souls and brings us into unison.

Breakin, Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo, Beat Street and others paved the way for movies like Bring It on, Stomp the Yard and Step Up. So this hub is dedicated to all the great dance battles of the movies. Enjoy.

Breakin

Ain't No Stopping Us...

So in that first video, you see Ozone(in the hat) and Turbo get "showed out" by the other group because they introduced a new girl who could dance. Don't fret, however, Ozone and Turbo have something up their sleeve. Watch in the next video:

They do even better in Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo. Here's a preview from that movie.

Another great 80's movie, Beat Street, also had a great dance battle at a club called the Roxy. This is a nice back-in-the-day story about some urban youth that want their respect and recognition for their craft, tagging. Tagging is the street name for graffiti and while some graffiti can be viewed as offensive, other tags are beautiful and are considered to be art. There are some musical greats in this movie too like Doug E. Fresh, Jazzy Jay, Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force. Check out this clip from Beat Street:

Next up, Stomp the Yard. This movies is about; you guessed it, stomping. Stomping is considered a dance and is widely used by fraternities and sororities. There are many stomp dance competitions nationwide. It's really kinda cool. Check out this clip from Stomp the Yard:

You'd Better Bring It...

Cheerleading is one of the most competitive sports I know of. Lots of people look at is as a dance team cheering on their team, but it really is a lot of work being a cheerleader. I know, I used to be one. So, in the respect of all dance battles here are some clips from the Bring It On movies.

More Bring It On...

Last, is one of my favorite movies, Step Up. I can't help but to nod my head and wiggle when I watch it....these are some truly talented dancers. See for yourself:

Step Up 2

Step Up 3

Well, that's it for now. These definitely aren't all the dance battles, but they're some of the best ones. Please share with others and be sure to leave a comment! Stay tuned for more!
